Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, announced today, Wednesday, the start of practical steps in cooperation with the company "GE Vernova" to establish highly efficient gas power plants with a total capacity of 24,000 megawatts.
The media office of the Minister of Electricity said in a statement received by Al-Ghad Press that this came during a workshop held today at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Electricity and other ministries, representatives of diplomatic bodies and experts in the energy sector, where the workshop was devoted to discussing the executive frameworks, timetable and financing of the above projects.
Fadel stated that "this year has witnessed unprecedented stability in production rates," stressing that "the credit for this goes to long-term scheduled maintenance contracts with GE Vernova and other international companies, where 46 turbines were modernized, contributing to the addition of approximately 1,000 megawatts and increasing the reliability of the system."
He added: "We have adopted a clear methodology in the government program based on direct contracting with specialized parent companies and avoiding intermediary companies, ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability, accelerating the pace of achievement, and transferring knowledge to national cadres."
The Minister of Electricity indicated that "the implementation of the 24,000 megawatt stations is proceeding according to studies prepared to distribute loads, determine locations, and provide fuel, in conjunction with plans to strengthen the transmission network."
For his part, Rashid Al-Janabi, GE Vernova's representative in Iraq, affirmed his company's commitment to establishing an effective partnership with the government and the Ministry of Electricity aimed at improving Iraq's energy infrastructure and enhancing the reliability of the electricity system. This is achieved by employing the latest generation technologies, as well as providing quality training programs for Iraqi personnel to transfer knowledge and build local capabilities.
