The Ministry of Oil expects Iraq to achieve gas self-sufficiency by 2030, confirming that projects to stop flaring this material will be completed by the end of 2028, coinciding with the launch of the French company Total's project.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Gas Affairs, Ezzat Sabir Ismail, said, "The Ministry is proceeding with projects to invest in associated and free gas in the Akkas and Mansouriya fields, in addition to projects in the fifth and sixth licensing rounds." He explained that "the completion of these projects will lead to achieving gas self-sufficiency and enable Iraq to supply all power plants with local fuel."
He added, "Iraq has become self-sufficient in liquefied natural gas (LNG) used for vehicles, and exports large quantities of it, in addition to gas condensates, which contribute to maximizing state revenues." He emphasized that "the ministry is proceeding with programs to completely stop flaring gas by 2028."
